The Kingdom Of Heaven Awaits Those in an LDR with God, by Gianni
January 17, 2010
We think of the kingdom of heaven as a far away place. For some, it is so far away as to seem non-existent, except in the minds of silly religious people, they might think. Yet, to others, it is the home of their greatest love – God.
For many lovers in a long distance relationship (LDR), they may feel their partner is as far away as the kingdom of heaven. There may be thousands of miles between them; they may be separated by oceans, by countries, or by States – as is the case for Sophie and I, an American couple who reside in neighboring States. We can empathize with those who suffer more distant LDR’s because we have experienced that same sense of longing in just the few days that we must be apart.
Sophie and I call ourselves The Masked Truelovers. That is because we are just two faceless people who have discovered a real love connection. But part of the reason why we had an instant connection is because of the spiritual relationship that we also shared. We both have a long distance relationship with God as well as ourselves. We are among the millions of faceless people in this world who have a true love relationship with a God who lives countless miles away.
To those of us who have experienced LDR’s, we may use the sentiment that our special someone is always with us in heart, even if they live so far away. Those in an LDR with God are also comforted with the idea that the kingdom of heaven is within (Luke 17:20,21). God promises to those who love him that He is always with us(Ps. 145:18; James 4:8), even though we will never finally meet in person until we leave this earth through death. The only time I ever heard the voice of God was when I was suddenly awakened at dawn one morning years ago. As if speaking beside my bed, I heard, “I will be your heavenly light from the darkness of the world even unto the morning of eternity.” Whenever I have doubts about the reality of my long distance relationship with God, I remember that morning.
My wife Sophie and I still live in two States. When we are not together, we communicate by cell phone, text messages, and emails. We used to chat online more often. That is how we first began to fall in love. But God keeps an ongoing connection to the kingdom of heaven also. If you didn’t guess already, it’s prayer. Those in an LDR with God can talk to Him anytime, anywhere, about anything. His ears are always open to those who love him (I Peter 3:12).
Another thing Sophie and I did, beginning early on in our long distance relationship was to develop standards of behavior. We both had previous failed marriages, so we mutually agreed to abide by principles that would keep our love and passion strong – not just during the beginning of our relationship, but for a lifetime. Well God did the same thing. That is why He provided the Bible. If we read the Bible, and live by the standards that God has revealed to us, that is how we keep our LDR with God strong. The Bible is also a collection of God's love letters to humanity to connect us more to God's heart as we experience this long distance relationship with Him. That is how we can tough it out and deal with this life while we wait for that wonderful day when we finally meet God face-to-face in the kingdom of heaven.
For James Klotzle, the kingdom of heaven was 1,921 miles away
