True Love Stories - Our First Day Together, by Sophie
Sept. 14, 2009
One of my favorite true love stories about Gianni and me happened on July 27, 2008, the day that we met in person. We had been chatting online for several weeks and now the big day was here where we would actually meet each other face-to-face. As one can imagine, I had mixed emotions, from fear to excitement to nervousness, everything all at once. Definintely a sign of true love. It feels like it was yesterday.
Our true love story begins early in the morning, because I could not sleep the night before. I just decided it was not worth it to try and sleep any longer so I got up early. After calling Gianni, and realizing that neither of us slept, we decided to just start our day together earlier than we had originally planned. I don’t remember exactly what time I left that morning but I do remember I started driving before the sun came up.
Gianni and I decided that we would meet somewhere half way between us since we live three hours apart. As we were driving, we were talking on our cell phones and we made our first true love connection as Gianni started composing a song and sang it to me. As we were talking and driving, we decided to meet wherever we “ran” into each other. As we got closer to each other, we actually ended up passing each other and Gianni had to turn around. We finally met up in our cars on the same side of the highway.
Our true love story continued as I followed Gianni into an empty elementary school parking lot. As he pulled his car next to mine, I could not believe we were actually meeting. I was so nervous that I did not even want to get out of my car. Honestly the next hour or so is a bit of a blur in my memory, probably because I was so nervous. I do remember that Gianni and I made our second true love connection as we spent time leaning on the back of his car and making out like two teenagers. Gianni tells me that cars were beeping at us and people were yelling out of their cars at us (did they recognize that we were creating a true love story?) but honestly, I don’t remember too much of that happening. We exchanged gifts that we had brought for each other and talked about what we would be doing together that day. We expressed our true love for each other throughout the day.
Gianni and I did not have any definite plans for the day and since we had gotten such an early start to the day, we had extra time. Gianni suggested that we drive around and look for a church to attend since it was Sunday morning. This suggestion made me realize we had a true love connection. It was important to me that if I were to have a relationship with anyone, it would have to include sharing the same religious convictions. For Gianni to suggest going to church was awesome to me. So, we did just that… we drove around until we found a church and we attended their service that morning. We held hands and enjoyed worshiping together. It was incredible to share something like that with Gianni. It was a new experience for me and I was loving every second of it. I knew I was experiencing true love.
Our love story continued when after church, Gianni and I went back to the school parking lot since that is where I had left my car. We had both brought clothes to change into because we had originally talked about going to a local amusement park. After getting changed, we followed each other in our cars to the amusement park. Our true love story continued as we drove to the amusement park.
Once inside the amusement park, Gianni and I both agreed that rides that spin around and around were out of the question. We both like roller coasters, so that is where we started. We began with the biggest and scariest roller coaster and I remember thinking that Gianni must be too good to be true. This was a true love story from a book, not my reality. We just connected in every way possible that day. Even with the types of rides we liked and did not like. It was just amazing to me that I could have so much in common with someone. I was still nervous around Gianni because I did not want to do or say anything that would ruin the day.
After a few roller coaster rides, we decided to get something to eat. Gianni and I each got something to eat. The sky darkened and it started to rain and there was a thunderstorm, so we sat on the ground underneath an overhang on the side of the concession stand. We ate our lunch and waited out the storm. While we were waiting for the storm to end, I started to show Gianni some pictures I had on my cell phone. For some reason, I was still nervous but after showing him the pictures and talking with him, I felt really relaxed around him and we had our third true love connection. We enjoyed the rest of the thunderstorm in each other’s arms, once again, like two teenagers.
After the storm ended, we continued riding roller coasters. Gianni talked me into going on to this one roller coaster that I never thought I would be brave enough to ride on. I don’t remember the ride too much, but I do remember waiting in the long line with Gianni. I remember how wonderful it was to talk with him, kiss him and just be with him. The line was long, but I sure did not mind. It was the first time in my life I ever felt like I could totally be myself around someone. Since Gianni had to go to work that night, we decided that we would leave the amusement park and get something to eat before he had to start driving home so he would not be late for work.
We decided to eat at a local restaurant because we did not have much time left together. We followed each other to a restaurant close by to the amusement park. Our fourth true love connection for the day came when we were seated at a booth. We sat across from each other, looked at each other and Gianni and I at the same time decided that we should be sitting next to each other. Gianni got up and sat next to me and I laughed because I had been thinking the exact same thing. All throughout the meal we remained in close contact with each other, holding hands, kissing, Gianni’s arm around me. To this day, whenever we go out to eat, we request a booth and sit next to each other. Recently, our waitress commented to us about how romantic we were because we sat next to each other in a booth. But to us, it is just natural and we would not have it any other way.
Our true love story continued after we left the restaurant, it was time to say goodbye. This was and still is the hardest time for me (ok Gianni, it is the hardest time for “us”). I hated saying goodbye, knowing that I would not see the love of my life for a whole week. We were able to spend some time saying goodbye, which was not easy. I fell more in love with Gianni that day. This is not the end of our true love story.
Our last true love connection that day was on the drive home. Gianni and I were once again talking on our cell phones. As we drove further and further from each other, Gianni composed and sang the third verse of what was to become “our song” (a song about our life story). I was totally amazed at how sweet Gianni was, and still is, by writing and singing a song for me. It was a sad drive home, but I knew that something special was happening in my life and that this was a true love story. Our true love connection continues to this day.
